Happy Holidays and New Windows!

All of our new windows have finally arrived and are installed.  Look at all the light in the house now!

First, Look at the new picture window- we matched it to the design of the original, but its much more energy efficient...

The addition, with Julia's new windows.  On the side you can see the new bathroom window, with board and batten siding in place

Kitchen windows and the door to the porch.  Everything is insulated now, so drywall is on the way...

The glare on the right is from the new office windows...

You can just make out the new fireplace on the porch, through the glare.

A better photo, showing all the daylight pouring into the house now.

Julia's new room, insulated and windows in place.

New window in an old room- this is our new playroom/TV room...

Jake's room with all new windows.  Definitely brighter than it used to be, and cozier too.

Our new porch with the new door to the living room...

Kitchen and office windows from the backyard

The porch from the backyard.  Cricket's doggie door is in place and ready to go!

We had spray-foam insulation installed throughout the house- this is the roof over Julia's new room.  Should be much more efficient year-round.  Next stop, drywall!

November Update

Lots of activity to report- the electrical and plumbing are in, and we're ready for the floor, windows and drywall!

The electrician checks the plan.  Those horizontal wall studs will support the kitchen cabinets.

You can see the office and side door through he new pocket door.

Here is the porch, before the fireplace is installed.  It is beautiful, with tongue in groove floors and ceiling.

And heres the fireplace, ready for installation...

After the electrical work, and ready for insulation

Here's the porch with the finished fireplace.  We opted or a ventless gas insert, so the chimney isn't as tall as originally planned...

And a last photo of the porch- can you tell we LOVE it?

More photos after the weekend!  Thanks for checking in with us, and for all the good vibes!

Progress, Progress...

Blogging from the road- lots of photos from last week, and I haven't even seen what they accomplished this week yet!

Here's the roof on the addition

10-10-10 - Now THAT's a Porch !

So progress has slowed a bit while we get the roof structure planned out correctly, but while the addition has been in a holding pattern, the back porch has really taken shape:

Here you can see Jake standing on the new porch.  it has tongue in groove flooring. This is the view from the house.

The view from our backyard.  New siding and windows will go on the side of the master bedroom.

Another view of the house from the backyard.

Here's Jake in the doorway to the new living room.
Lastly, here is a view of sunlight streaming through the open gable to the addition.  Can't wait for the new roof and vaulted ceiling!

Porch, floors and walls!

Lots of progress this week- Porch floor is framed, internal walls of the addition are in place, and the subfloor is fixed.

Here is a view of the front of the addition, looking through the bedroom.  No roof on it yet...

Here's the view from inside the bedroom.  The old wall is still in place, bu that will open into the new closet.

Here's the view down the hall.  To the right is the new bathroom, beyond that is the office space and mudroom.

OK, back out to the backyard- Great view of our new office windows.

They've removed the old kitchen windows and reframed them to sit above the counter.  You cna also see the floor system for our NEW PORCH!!!

The coming week will be a big one- the porch will be completed, and the old roof replaced with the new structure to tie everything together.   Can't wait!

Another week, another leap forward

On the road all week, but the changes at home are dramatic.  First, some shots from last weekend before I left:

Here is a nice shot of our new broom closet, to the left of the pocket door

Foundation is ready to go
Some free publicity for our awesome contractor and his crew.

Framing has started on the addition, and the shape of the house is starting to show:

From the back yard, you can see the windows for the office:

 Nothing inside (yet)!

The old nasty vinyl siding is gone, and they're ready to start with phase 2 of demolition, blowing out the nook and enlarging the living space:
